Acton School Guide

Our Story

A Vision Born from Shared Dreams
Our path to founding Acton Studios of Rochester began long before we officially embarked on this journey. It traces back to a conversation between Nick and me in 2011, a time when the idea of starting a more experiential school model was just a dream. We hadn't yet started our family, but even with our differing educational backgrounds, we found common ground in our educational philosophies, particularly our belief in a more experiential approach to learning.

A Desire for Meaningful Education
Throughout our lives, we observed numerous family members and friends graduate high school and enter college, often without a clear direction or passion. This observation was a stark reminder of our own quests in our late 20s and early 30s to discover our true callings. Nick, in particular, seemed naturally attuned to his inner drive - what he refers to as his "inner spark." While he adeptly navigated traditional paths to success, we both craved something more: a life ignited by internal passion and purpose. This desire wasn't just for ourselves, but also for future generations, hoping they might discover their sparks much earlier in life.

Embracing Child-Led Learning
As parents, we embraced a child-led learning approach both at home and in other environments. This path wasn't always straightforward - often going against societal norms - but it resonated deeply with us, igniting a familiar spark. While we occasionally attempted to align with conventional expectations, these periods were marked by a sense of loss, a departure from our true calling.

The Acton Academy Revelation
The concept of Acton Academy first reached us through a podcast, rekindling our early discussions and resonating profoundly with our core beliefs. As we listened, a sense of destiny enveloped us - a calling, perhaps, or simply an overwhelming sense of alignment with our values. Delving into Acton's philosophy through the book 'Courage To Grow' and other resources, we found ourselves unequivocally drawn to its mission. It was a clear decision: we were ready to embark on this transformative journey.

Joining a Movement of Change
Our gratitude towards The Sandefer's pioneering efforts in establishing Acton Academy is immeasurable. Joining a network that embodies our long-discussed ideals felt like a dream realized - a chance to contribute to a movement we deeply resonated with.

Our Core Belief: The Power of Youth
We firmly believe in the extraordinary capabilities of young individuals. Society often underestimates them, but we've witnessed the immense potential that arises when they are empowered to explore their autonomy and nurture their unique sparks from a young age. At Acton Studios of Rochester, we're committed to fostering an environment where the mind, body, and soul are in harmony, promoting a healthy lifestyle and self-awareness among our youngest learners.

Embarking on a Collective Journey
As we join this incredible journey with Acton Academy, our excitement is boundless. We're not just building a studio; we're nurturing a community where every child can embark on their own meaningful journey, discovering and honing their passions and potential. We invite you to join us on this exciting adventure, shaping a new generation of inspired, autonomous learners ready to explore and impact the world.
